Abstract
Benedict Golo Semuki, NIM 17122029, in 2025. Wrote a thesis with the title The Meaning of Boenmepu Singing in Bonet Dance in the Oetfo Community, Bileon Village, Fautmolo District. Guided by supervisor I Stanis Sanga Tolan, S.Sn., M.Sn and supervisor II Maria P. Purnamalon, S.Pd., M.Pd. The problem in this study is that many young generations do not know the meaning of Boenmepu singing and forget the heritage of their ancestors. The formulation of the problem in this study is (1) What is the meaning of Boenmepu singing in the Bonet dance in the Oetfo community, (2) What is the structure of the melody and the content of the verses in the Boenmepu song that is sung during the Bonet dance. This study aims to find out (1) the meaning of Boenmepu singing in the Bonet dance in the Oetfo community, (2) The melodic structure and content of the poems in the Boenmepu song that is sung during the Bonet Dance in the Oetfo community. The location in the study is Oetfo village, Bileon village, Fautmolo district, South Central Timor. The determination of informants was carried out by purposive sampling technique. The data sources used are primary data and secondary data. The data collection techniques in this study are document studies, observations, and interviews. The data analysis techniques in this study are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawn. The results of this study show that 1) Boenmepu singing is a work encouragement song that is usually sung during the Bonet dance before starting a job. The meaning contained in Boenmepu's song is the meaning of mutual cooperation, hard work, unity, cleanliness, health, education, expressions of gratitude to God, respect and responsibility. 2) The melody used in Boenmepu's singing is very simple and easy to sing because it uses a melody with a pitch distance that is not too far. The melody sung is only repeated in each line of the poem. In Boenmepu's singing, the notes used are pentatonic scale. Boenmepu singing consists of Tonis (poetry) and Ne (rhyme). The person who chants the verse is called A'tonis while the person who recites the rhyme is called A'mnait Ne. Boenmepu singing consists of 3 parts, namely the opening, content, and closing parts.
