Abstract

The song Mengheningkan Cipta is a song that is often used in official activities and has a high historical value, so it requires the ability to accompany it with good and appropriate harmony. The problems raised from this study are 1) How is the process of applying chord progression to keyboard playing in the song Mengheningkan Cipta for students of the Music Education Study Program 2) What are the results of applying chord progression to keyboard playing in the song Mengheningkan Cipta for students of the Music Education Study Program. This study aims to 1) Describe the process of applying chord progression to keyboard playing in the song Mengheningkan Cipta for students of the Music Education Study Program, 2) To find out the results of applying chord progression to keyboard playing in the song Mengheningkan Cipta for students of the Music Education Study Program. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with research subjects of students who take keyboard practice courses. The method used in this study is Field Action. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation and documentation. The results of the study showed that the process of applying chord progression to the keyboard playing of the song Mengheningkan Cipta by students began with the introduction of the main chords I–IV–V–I and auxiliary chords ii and vi in accompanying the song, followed by the practice of accompanying the song Mengheningkan Cipta according to the chord progression in the score by paying attention to hand coordination, accuracy of tone and tempo carried out part by part of the song, and as the end of the learning, students practiced the chord progression starting from the intro to the closing. The final result of the application of chord progression to the keyboard playing of the song Mengheningkan Cipta for students of the Music Education Study Program, students became more able to accompany the song Mengheningkan Cipta with the right chord progression so that the game sounded more harmonious and musical.
