Abstract

Angklung is one of Indonesia's traditional musical instruments originating from West Java Province. Schools in East Nusa Tenggara Province also teach angklung which is included in the curriculum, one of which is at Reformasi Plus Noelbaki High School, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Learning angklung music in the combined ensemble class still uses conventional methods, namely the lecture method. This is due to the teacher's habits and limited experience, where the teacher only gives lessons using the lecture method by giving song scores, then giving signals and mentioning the notes then the students sound the angklung. The Kodály method is an approach to learning music that includes the use of language through the hands (chiro). The problem in this study is how the learning process of the Kodály method and why the Kodály method is important in the development of angklung playing. The purpose of this study is to describe the learning process of angklung using the Kodály method and to describe the importance of using the Kodály method in developing students' angklung playing skills. The approach in this research is descriptive qualitative approach with field action method. Data was collected through observation, interview and documentation techniques. The types of data in this study are primary and secondary data. The results showed that the development of angklung games using the Kodály method consists of three stages, namely the initial, core and final stages. It is important for students to concentrate and be serious in looking at hand movements to produce melody, chords, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, and accuracy in sounding the notes according to the song being played. Repeated practice helps students acquire the solfegio skills needed to play a musical instrument. Although not perfect, students in the combined ensemble class were able to apply the Kodály method in playing angklung in the song Bolelebo. The students' work process in practicing the angklung instrument using the Kodály method has helped strengthen the students' pattern of sharpness and dexterity in responding to hand movements or chiro, and the students began to easily develop the skill of playing angklung in the right way and according to its rules.
