Abstract

Social media has increasingly become an open space for public discussion, allowing people to express their opinions on various social issues, including child-rearing practices (parenting). One topic that has attracted considerable attention is VOC Parenting, which has generated diverse pro and contra opinions regarding strict parenting styles within society. This study aims to analyze public sentiment toward VOC Parenting based on comments posted on the social media platform X, using a classification approach with the Naive Bayes algorithm. The research process consists of several stages, including data collection, data preprocessing (cleaning, case folding, tokenization, stopword removal, and stemming), data labeling into positive, negative, and neutral categories, and term weighting using Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF). The dataset is then divided into training and testing data with an 80:20 ratio, followed by sentiment classification using the Naive Bayes algorithm. The classification results are evaluated and visualized using performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score.The findings show that public sentiment toward VOC Parenting on social media X is dominated by positive sentiment, accounting for 42.0% of the data, followed by neutral sentiment at 32.95% and negative sentiment at 25.1%. These results indicate that public opinion regarding VOC Parenting tends to be predominantly positive, with neutral and negative sentiments appearing to a lesser extent.
