Abstract

The Soka Sa'o is one of the traditional songs sung in the Ka Sa'o ritual in Bowaru Village. This song is sung in groups using traditional language lyrics that are sacred and contain symbolic meanings. The problems raised in this study are 1). What is the symbolic meaning contained in the lyrics of the Soka Sa'o song in the Ka Sa'o ritual process in Bowaru Village, Jerebuu District, Ngada Regency. 2). What is the structure of the Soka Sa'o song used in the Ka Sa'o ritual process in Bowaru Village, Jerebuu District, Ngada Regency. This study aims to 1). Describe the symbolic meaning contained in the Soka Sa'o song and 2). Analyze the structure of the Soka Sa'o song in the Ka Sa'o ritual. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the symbolic meaning of the Soka Sa'o song is reflected through traditional poems such as guru waja, bheto waja, pitu peka watu lau, leke peka li'e wutu, tenga, sadho wolo, lobo reta lay lewa, and lako which contain the values of strength, unity, balance, responsibility, protection, and loyalty. The structure of the Soka Sa'o song is composed of an opening section, a main section, and a closing section with a response pattern between the leader of the song (Vedha Pata) and the group of responders (Bo Doa). This presentation pattern reflects the order, togetherness, and sacredness in the implementation of the Ka Sa'o ritual. Thus, the Soka Sa'o song not only functions as an important part of traditional rituals, but also as a means of preserving the oral tradition and cultural identity of the Bowaru Village community.
