Abstract

Music learning, especially guitar playing, is crucial for developing students' musical and motor skills. The altar servers at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Kelapa Lima, are lay ministers and members of God's holy congregation who play a role in the Eucharistic celebration, particularly altar service. This group possesses musical skills and enthusiasm. Within this group, there is a ukulele group, which they call the altar servers. However, their guitar playing skills are limited, so this researcher focused solely on learning basic guitar major chords. The purpose of this study is to explain how a group of altar servers at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Kelapa Lima, learns basic major chords, and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in this process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative methodology, and the subjects are a group of altar servers who are learning guitar. The approach used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach, with the method used in this research being a field action research method. The results of the study indicate that basic learning of major chords is carried out in stages through planning, implementation, and evaluation activities. The drill method helps students learn the shape and fingering of basic major chords (C, D, E, F, G, and A) on the guitar. Participants are directly involved in practicing playing the guitar, which indicates that the learning takes place actively and participatively. Supporting factors for this learning include high student motivation, support from instructors, and the availability of musical instruments. On the other hand, inhibiting factors include differences in students' basic abilities, limited practice time, and lack of concentration among some participants. Learning the basics of major chords using the drill method, which is carried out in stages, participatory, and pays attention to individual factors, has proven effective in improving the musical motor skills of the altar group.
