Abstract

This study examines the form and function of Nggo Lamba music presentation in the Ate Keda traditional ceremony in Roga Village, East Ndona District, Ende Regency. The problems examined in this study are (1) what form Nggo Lamba music is presented in the Ate Keda traditional ceremony, and (2) what function Nggo Lamba music plays in the Ate Keda traditional ceremony for the people of Roga Village. The objectives of this study are: 1) to describe the form of Nggo Lamba music presentation, and 2) to analyze the function of Nggo Lamba music in the Ate Keda traditional ceremony. The approach used in this research was a qualitative one using ethnographic methods from an ethnomusicological perspective. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis employed an interactive analysis model, encompassing data collection, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the Nggo Lamba music presentation takes the form of a traditional musical ensemble played by five people using the nggo (gong), lamba (drum), and diri (ceng) instruments. The presentation follows the stages of the Ate Keda traditional ceremony, with the players' formations tailored to the ritual space. Functionally, Nggo Lamba music serves as an accompaniment to traditional ceremonies, a means of symbolic communication with ancestors, a bond of social solidarity, a marker of ritual stages, and a reinforcement of the cultural values and identity of the Roga Village community.
