Abstract

This thesis entitled “The Influence of Teachers’ Teaching Styles, Learning Environment, and Learning Motivation on Students’ Academic Achievement at SMA Sudirman Kupang” was written by Yelly Yunita Banunaek (Student ID: 811231022), under the supervision of Dr. Samuel Igo Leton, M.Pd as the Main Supervisor and Dr. Dra. Ruminah, MM as the Co-Supervisor. This study aims to determine the influence of teachers’ teaching styles, learning environment, and learning motivation on students’ academic achievement at SMA Sudirman Kupang. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research. The population of this study consisted of 40 students of SMA Sudirman Kupang. The objectives of this study are to determine: (1) The description of students’ academic achievement, teachers’ teaching styles, learning environment, and learning motivation at SMA Sudirman Kupang; (2) The partial influence of teachers’ teaching styles, learning environment, and learning motivation on students’ academic achievement at SMA Sudirman Kupang; and (3) The simultaneous influence of teachers’ teaching styles, learning environment, and learning motivation on students’ academic achievement at SMA Sudirman Kupang. The results of descriptive analysis show that: (1) students’ academic achievement was categorized as Very Good with an indicator achievement of 87.42%; (2) the variable of teachers’ teaching styles was categorized as Good with an indicator achievement of 82.16%; (3) the learning environment variable was categorized as Very Good with an indicator achievement of 84.83%; and (4) the learning motivation variable was categorized as Very Good with an indicator achievement of 84.33%. The results of inferential statistical analysis indicate that partially, the teachers’ teaching style variable has a positive and significant effect to students’ academic achievement with a t-value of 1.784 and a significance value of 0.043. The learning environment variable has a positive and significant effect to students’ academic achievement with a t-value of 3.352 and a significance value of 0.002. The learning motivation variable also has a positive and significant effect to students’ academic achievement with a t-value of 3.621 and a significance value of 0.001. Simultaneously, teachers’ teaching styles, learning environment, and learning motivation have a positive and significant effect to the academic achievement of students at SMA Sudirman Kupang, as indicated by an F-value of 115.742 with a significance value of 0.000. The contribution of the three independent variables (R²) teachers’ teaching styles, learning environment, and learning motivation to students’ academic achievement at SMA Sudirman Kupang is 0.906 or 90.6%. The remaining 9.4% is influenced by other variables not included in this study.
