Abstract

Hedung dance is a traditional dance of Lamaholot people that has strong cultural values. This dance is generally performed in various traditional activities, one of which is at the guest welcoming ceremony as a form of respect and traditional acceptance. The research Question in this study are 1) How is the presentation of the hedung dance at the guest welcoming ceremony in Kolimasang Village? 2) What is the function of the 1) hedung dance at the guest welcoming ceremony in Kolimasang Village? This study aims to describe the presentation form and 2) identify the function of the hedung dance in the context of the traditional ceremonies of the Kolimasang Village community. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques include field observations, interviews with informants, and audio-visual documentation. The results of the study show that 1). The presentation of the hedung dance is performed in groups with strong and dynamic movements using traditional properties such as machetes, spears, and shields, accompanied by musical instruments, gongs, and drums. 2) The functions of the hedung dance include ritual functions, social functions, entertainment functions, and as a communication medium. Through the hedung dance, people of Kolimasang Village express the values of courage, solidarity, preparedness, and cultural identity that have been passed down from generations. To this day, the hedung dance remains preserved and maintained as a source of pride and local cultural wealth for the Kolimasang community.
