Abstract

Tapping technique is a technique that is played without using a pick or pluck, but with the fingers of both hands on the neck of the guitar. Music Education Study Program students have so far focused more on classical guitar playing, while electric guitar playing is still less explored. Looking at the profile of graduates, the first is to become prospective teachers with increasingly high and varied skill demands, so researchers are interested in researching electric guitar playing by applying the tapping technique. The main problems in this research are 1). How to improve the tapping technique on an electric guitar with songs using the drill method for students interested in guitar in the third semester of the UNWIRA music education study program, 2). What difficulties are found in the process of learning the tapping technique on the electric guitar with the song Kalau using the drill method for students interested in guitar in the third semester of the UNWIRA Music Education Study Program. The objectives of this research are 1). To describe efforts to improve the tapping technique on electric guitar with the song Kalau through the drill method for students interested in guitar in the third semester of the music education study program, 2). To find out and describe what difficulties are found in the process of learning tapping techniques on electric guitar with songs using the drill method for students interested in guitar in the third semester of the UNWIRA music education study program. The type of approach used in this research is a qualitative approach, with field action methods. Data is collected through observation and documentation. The results of the research on the process of improving tapping technique skills were classified into several stages, namely the initial stage which was carried out by recruiting third semester students interested in guitar from the Music Education Study Program, as well as the researcher explaining the aims and objectives of the research. The core stage is training, which is a learning process to improve the ability to play electric guitar using tapping techniques. Researchers divided students into groups based on the interests played in the sheet music that had been arranged. Mastery of playing individually and in groups is seriously worked on to achieve cohesiveness in electric guitar playing in the application of the Tapping technique. The final stage contains activities to strengthen techniques for playing together, tidying up the playing of the song Kalau, and performing it in its entirety and documented. Based on the discussion of the results of the research conducted, it was concluded that learning Tapping techniques on the electric guitar was new for Music Education Study Program students but was felt to be very interesting and challenging. Difficulties in playing the tapping technique with songs can be overcome using the drill method so that the song model can be played compactly and the tapping technique can be played well.
