Abstract
The planning and design of the Office of the Department of Education and Culture of Malaka Regency is motivated by the existing condition of the building, which still uses a former school facility that does not meet the standards of a government office. The problems include limited space, inefficient layout, and inadequate facilities, which affect the effectiveness of performance and public services in the fields of education and culture. The purpose of this design is to produce a representative and functional office design concept that reflects the local cultural identity of Malaka through a vernacular architectural transformation approach. In addition, this design integrates supporting facilities such as a library as a literacy center and a cultural park as a space for artistic and cultural activities. The method used includes primary and secondary data collection through field observations, literature studies, and analysis of site conditions, spatial requirements, activities, and local culture. The architectural transformation approach is applied by adapting traditional architectural elements of Malaka into a more modern form without losing their original values and meanings. The results show that the application of the vernacular architectural transformation concept is able to produce a building design that not only fulfills functional requirements as a government office but also represents local cultural identity. Therefore, this building is expected to improve public service quality, support educational and cultural activities, and become a symbol of cultural preservation in Malaka Regency.
