Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parenting style of mothers in Long Distance Marriage (LDM) in Bitefa Village, East Miomaffo District, North Central Timor Regency. Parenting style refers to the methods used by parents or caregivers to care for, educate, and guide their children. This study uses Diana Baumrind's parenting style theory with indicators of authoritarian, democratic, and permissive styles. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with six mothers who are experiencing LDM and have children aged 2-7 years, as well as participatory observation. The results show that the parenting style of mothers in LDM in Bitefa Village tends to be democratic, with mothers being more open and communicative with their children. However, some mothers also use authoritarian and permissive parenting styles, which can be influenced by factors such as the mother's education level, experience in LDM, and family support. This study also found that mothers in LDM face several challenges in parenting, such as difficulty managing time and distance, and maintaining discipline and control. However, they also have several strategies to overcome these challenges, such as using technology to communicate with their children, and seeking support from family and friends. This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of parenting styles in the context of LDM and can be a reference for families experiencing LDM.
