Abstract

The Thesis entitled “Communication Competence of Leaders of the Central Adonara Student Association (Hipanara Kupang)”. This study aims to determine the communication competencies of leaders in carrying out organizational leadership functions based on Aristotle's Rhetoric Theory, which includes Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. The study uses a case study approach with a descriptive qualitative research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation with five informants consisting of former administrators, active members, and the organization's chairperson. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, as well as triangulation to ensure data validity. The results showed that the communication competence of Hipanara Kupang leaders was reflected in the application of Ethos through a friendly, open, and integrity-based attitude, which enabled them to build trust among members, although they were still not decisive enough in decision-making. In terms of Pathos, leaders were able to build emotional closeness and solidarity through an empathetic approach, but member participation was not yet evenly distributed. Meanwhile, in terms of Logos, leaders encouraged participatory dialogue and rational argumentation in decision-making, although program monitoring and follow-up were still not optimal. Overall, the communication competence of leaders was quite good, but there was still a need for improvement in assertiveness, inclusiveness, and organizational oversight.
