Abstract
The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to the music industry, particularly in music production processes that increasingly utilize Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). One of the most widely used DAW software among independent music producers is FL Studio. This study aims to examine the process of digital music production using FL Studio and to analyze the factors influencing independent music producers in Kupang City in selecting music genres. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. The research subjects consist of three independent music producers in Kupang City who actively use FL Studio in their music production activities. Data were collected through indepth interviews, direct observation of the production process, and documentation of musical works. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and meanings derived from the producers’ experiences. The findings indicate that the digital music production process using FL Studio involves several main stages, including idea development, determination of tempo and beat, creation of melodies and harmonies, mixing, and mastering. The selection of music genres is influenced by various factors such as the producers’ personal identity and preferences, musical background, digital music trends, the technical flexibility offered by FL Studio, and audience responses through digital platforms. This study is expected to contribute both academically and practically to the development of digital music production, particularly for independent music producers.
