Abstract

Guidance and counseling teachers play a crucial role in improving the quality of education in junior high schools. However, the performance of guidance and counseling teachers in schools, particularly in Swastisari Foundation Junior High School in Kupang City, is hindered by several factors. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that hinder the performance of guidance and counseling teachers in the school. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this study are guidance and counseling teachers in Swastisari Foundation Junior High School in Kupang City. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and document studies. Data analysis uses data reduction, data display, and data verification. The results of the study show that there are several factors that hinder the performance of guidance and counseling teachers in Swastisari Foundation Junior High School in Kupang City, including: Lack of school support, particularly in terms of inadequate guidance and counseling hours and lack of attention to the role of guidance and counseling teachers, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, particularly in terms of inadequate guidance and counseling rooms and lack of counseling facilities, lack of collaboration, particularly in terms of inadequate communication and cooperation with class teachers and parents, lack of student openness, particularly in terms of lack of trust in guidance and counseling teachers and lack of motivation to visit the counseling room. These factors affect the performance of guidance and counseling teachers in providing guidance and counseling services to students. Based on the results of this study, the researcher provides recommendations to: 1. School Principals: a. Increase support for guidance and counseling teachers' performance. School principals need to prioritize budget allocation to provide adequate facilities and resources for guidance and counseling activities. b.Provide training and development. School principals can provide opportunities for guidance and counseling teachers to attend training and professional development to improve their competence and knowledge. 2. Guidance and Counseling Teachers: a. Increase collaboration. Guidance and counseling teachers need to build strong communication and collaboration with subject teachers, parents, and other relevant parties.b. Improve competence. Guidance and counseling teachers are advised to continuously strive to improve their competence and knowledge through training, seminars, and other professional development activities. 3. Swastisari Foundation:Build synergy with schools. The foundation can build strong synergy with schools to support guidance and counseling and ensure that guidance and counseling needs are met.
