Abstract

The scientific approach is an approach that provides learning experiences for students to construct knowledge through scientific activities. The stages of the scientific approach include observing, asking, collecting, information/trying, reasoning/associating, and communicating which are known as the 5M model. The purpose of the study was to determine the ability of teachers in managing learning that applies a scientific approach, the completeness of student learning outcomes and critical thinking skills of students who apply a scientific approach. The type of research used in this study is descriptive quantitative. The sample in this study was all students of class XI IPA SMA Taruna Mandiri Fatubenao with a sampling technique of saturated sampling. The results of the study showed that the ability of teachers in managing learning that applies a discovery learning approach to the reaction rate material of class XI IPA SMA Taruna Mandiri Fatubenao is included in the good category with an average score obtained of 3.65; Student learning outcomes on the reaction rate material in learning that applies a scientific approach to class XI IPA SMA Taruna Mandiri Fatubenao are complete with an average final score obtained of 84; The critical thinking skills of class XI IPA students of SMA Taruna Mandiri Fatubenao in learning that applies a scientific approach to the rate material are in the fairly good category with a score obtained of 46.
