Abstract

Libraries and archival institutions play a strategic role in information management and the improvement of public literacy. However, in Manggarai Regency, specifically in Ruteng City, current library and archival facilities remain inadequate, characterized by limited reading spaces, sparse book collections, and inefficient archival management systems. These conditions hinder public access to information and the preservation of local historical values. This study aims to design the Office of the Regional Archives and Library Agency of Manggarai Regency that is functional and modern while maintaining a strong local identity. The design approach utilized is the Transformation of Vernacular Architecture, which adapts the principles of local Manggarai buildings into modern architectural forms by considering climatic conditions, the use of local materials, and environmental sustainability through natural lighting and ventilation. The result of this design is expected not only to provide optimal literacy and archival storage facilities for the government and the community but also to serve as a symbol of Manggarai's local cultural preservation that harmonizes with nature.
