Abstract

Studi examines the analysis of the meaning of Koaneno chants in the community of Oemasi Village, Nekamese District, Kupang Regency. Koaneno is one form of traditional chant of the Dawan ethnic community that plays an important role in the traditional wedding ceremony, particularly during the stage of the full payment of belis. This research employed a qualitative approach using an ethnographic method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, community leaders, and cultural practitioners, as well as documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of the study indicate that the meanings contained in the Koaneno chant include denotative, connotative, and symbolic meanings. The verses do not directly refer to specific objects or events, but symbolically represent important processes in customary traditions, such as acceptance, respect, responsibility, and the union of two families.
