Abstract
The Etu traditional boxing ritual is a cultural tradition still preserved by the Nataia people in Olaia Village, Nagekeo Regency, as a form of gratitude for the harvest and a medium for transmitting social and cultural values. This study aims to analyze the meaning of the Etu traditional boxing ritual as an expression of gratitude for the harvest and to understand how this meaning is constructed through community social interactions. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants in this study consisted of traditional leaders, traditional boxing practitioners, and the community. Data analysis was conducted using George Herbert Mead's symbolic interactionism theory, which encompasses the concepts of mind, self, and society. The results show that the Etu traditional boxing ritual embodies the meaning of gratitude for the harvest to God and ancestors, courage and strength, brotherhood and peace, respect for ancestors, social value education, and the cultural identity of the Nataia people. This ritual is not only understood as a physical activity, but also as a form of cultural communication that strengthens social solidarity and maintains the sustainability of the local cultural identity. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for the community and the younger generation in understanding, preserving, and developing the local cultural values embodied in the Etu traditional boxing ritual.
