Abstract

Due Nga Donahu is a traditional song that lives and develops within the Atta Due activity, namely the tapping of lontar palm trees among the people of Raemude Village, West Sabu District, Sabu Raijua Regency. This song is usually sung by Atta Due practitioners during the process of tapping lontar palm sap. The problems addressed in this study are: (1) the presentation process of the Due Nga Donahu song in the Atta Due activity (2) the meanings contained in the Due Nga Donahu song. The objectives of this study are to determine the presentation process and to identify the meanings of the Due Nga Donahu song in the Atta Due activity among the people of Raemude Village. This research employs a qualitative approach using an ethnographic method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the Due Nga Donahu song contains several meanings: denotative meaning, which expresses palm wine and palm sugar as sources of life; connotative meaning, which interprets palm wine and palm sugar as symbols of strength and hope; semantic meaning, which indicates that palm wine and palm sugar have always been part of community life from childhood to adulthood; and pragmatic meaning, which reveals that the song is sung during the lontar sap tapping process as a form of prayer and encouragement so that the work proceeds well and the sap yield is abundant. In addition, the social and cultural meanings reflected in this song show cooperation within the family, with a division of roles in which fathers and young men tap the lontar palm trees, while mothers and young women assist in collecting the sap and processing it into Sabu palm sugar. The presentation process of the Due Nga Donahu song is carried out spontaneously by Atta Due practitioners at specific times, namely in the morning and afternoon during the tapping activity. This song is passed down from generation to generation as part of the tradition of the Raemude Village community and is closely attached to the Atta Due activity.
