Abstract

The song "Ndeng ko ndeng tedeng" is a traditional song of the Sokong Hamlet community of Galang Village, Welak District, West Manggarai Regency. This song has spiritual and cultural value, expressing gratitude to the Creator and Ancestors for the togetherness and solidarity of the West Manggarai community. The song "Ndeng ko ndeng tedeng" is a type of musical art in the form of traditional songs consisting of verses typical of the West Manggarai region. It emphasizes the lyrics rather than the musical elements and contains a strong moral message. The song "Ndeng ko ndeng tedeng" is sung during the Penti ceremony and at night. It is sung in the local language (Manggarai). Through its lyrics, a songwriter can communicate with his listeners. Music has evolved to adapt to the tastes of the community, distinguishing it from other forms of art, thus gaining its own appeal and providing a new nuance to the development of art in Indonesia. The lyrics often touch on themes of daily life, relationships with nature, and moral values held by the people of West Manggarai. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and literature review. The analysis shows that the song contains cultural, spiritual, and social values that strengthen the identity of the Manggarai people and strengthen communal solidarity. The song also serves as a historical reminder and a bond between humans, nature, and ancestral spirits. Thus, the song "Ndeng Ko Ndeng Tedeng" is an important symbol in preserving local cultural values.
