Abstract
Riparian plants have a very important ecological role, in maintaining water quality, supplying litter, as habitat, and natural filters for various pollutants. Research on riparian plant vegetation in determining spring water quality has been carried out, but there is still minimal information regarding its relation to water quality. The aim of the research is to determine the types, diversity and dominance of riparian plants, and to determine the physico-chemical quality of water in the springs of Toobaun village, West Amarasi sub-district. Vegetation data collection was carried out using the quadratic method (Quadrat Sampling Technique) which was carried out randomly. Data analysis in this study consisted of endemism status, Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Simpson dominance index and gap analysis between physical and chemical water variable data at the observation location and standard water quality criteria. The research results showed that there were 32 types of riparian plants found in the Toobaun springs from 22 families with a total of 348 individuals. Of the four habits, it was found that tree habitus consisted of 18 types, 8 types of poles, 6 types of saplings and 17 types of seedlings. For the number of individuals, the tree habitus consists of 50 individuals, 15 individual poles, 72 individual saplings and 211 individual seedlings. The plant species diversity index ranges from 0.77 – 2.53 which is classified as very poor – moderate. Almost all parameters meet quality standards, except BOD, COD and Lead (Dissolved Metal). The BOD content value is 463 mg/L (>2 mg/L), the COD content is 725.82 mg/L (>10 mg/L) and the Lead (Dissolved Metal) value is 0.687 mg/L (>0.03 mg/L).
