Abstract

This study is a qualitative study that aims to describe the form of the Bajawa Traditional House (Sa'o) when viewed from the geometric aspect and what mathematical concepts exist in the Bajawa . Traditional House (Sa'o). This research was conducted at the Bajawa Traditional House in Borani Village, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, with the object of the research being the Bajawa Traditional House and the subjects of the research being the Traditional House Builders and Traditional Elders in Borani Village, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The instrument in this study was the researcher himself and the supporting instruments were interviews, observations and documentation. The results of the study showed that the construction of the Bajawa Traditional House (Sa'o) consisted of two main stages: planning and physical construction, each of which began with traditional rituals such as Ti'i Ka Bonu Si. The identified mathematical activities included measuring, calculating, and designing, which were carried out using traditional tools such as bamboo (Lat) as a non-standard unit of measurement. Bajawa Traditional House (Sa’o) is shaped like a square stage, built using various types of local wood with special rules regarding the type and arrangement of materials. This study shows the integration of cultural values, spirituality, and local knowledge, including the concept of ethnomathematics, in the traditional construction practices of the Bajawa community.
