Abstract
The Science Techno Park (STP) of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang is a secondary forest area covering approximately 37 hectares in Taloetan Village, Kupang Regency, characterized as secondary forest and currently undergoing development. The presence of birds as important ecosystem components is strongly influenced by the structure and diversity of vegetation in their habitat. This study aims to determine the level of bird species richness in the Science Techno Park of Unwira and to identify the relative abundance of bird species present in the area. The research method used is the MacKinnon method, which involves walking along observation routes and recording bird species from the forest floor up to the tree canopy. The data were then analyzed descriptively using Species Discovery Curves and Relative Abundance Index (RAI). The results showed that there are 30 bird species from 20 families in the STP Unwira area. This level of species richness is considered relatively high compared to studies in other locations with larger areas, indicating that STP Unwira is an important habitat for birds on Timor Island. The highest Relative Abundance Index (RAI) value is the Timor Decu (Saxicola gutturalis) with an RAI value of 100%. Of the total species found, there are 11 species of birds with limited distribution, consisting of 8 species of birds endemic to Timor and Wetar Islands and three other species of birds that are not endemic but included in limited distribution. The group of birds that dominate the STP Unwira area are insectivorous species. The vegetation strata most used by birds in the Science Technology Park Unwira habitat is the tree strata under the canopy.
