Abstract

Tree vegetation and insects play important ecological roles in riparian areas, including maintaining water quality, providing leaf litter, serving as natural habitats, and functioning as bioindicators of aquatic conditions. Research on the diversity of trees and insect in describing the water quality of the diverity of trees and insects in describing the water quality of the Oeltuah spring remains limited; therefore, an in-depth study is necessary. The objectives of this study are to identify the three and insect species found in the spring, analyze their diversity indices, and examine their relationship with the physical and chemical quality of the Oeltuah spring water in Taebenu District, Kupang Regency. Data collection on tree vegetation was conducted using the Quadrat Sampling Technique randomly. Insect collection employed a combination of passive methods (pitfall trap, yellow pan traps) and active methods (insect and hand sorting). Data analysis included the Shannon- Wiener diversity index, species richness index, and a GAP analysis between the physical and chemical parameters of the water and the water quality standards. The results showed that 21 species of riparian plants belonging to 11 families with a total of 55 individuals were found around the Oeltuah spring. Seventeen species of insect belonging to 10 families with a total of 46 individuals were recorded, with a diversity of 2.61 (classified as high) and a species richness index (R) of 4.17 (classified as very high). Almost all parameters met water quality standards, except for the MPN coliform value of 2700/100 ml.
