Abstract

This study aims to analyze the motives and gratifications of university students who enjoy entertainment content in Rian Arifin’s TikTok videos. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with five informants who are active university students and fans of Rian Arifin's content. The results show that the students’ motives for consuming the content are divided into three main aspects: cognitive motives (seeking knowledge and new perspectives), affective motives (entertainment and mood enhancement), and social integration and interaction motives (strengthening social relationships and feeling part of a community). Furthermore, the gratifications gained by students reflect the fulfillment of these three aspects. These findings reinforce the relevance of the Uses and Gratifications theory, which states that audiences actively choose and use media based on their personal and social needs.
