Abstract

This study used a descriptive research design. The participants were 18 tenth-grade students of SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang in the academic year 2025/2026. The data were collected through a writing test in which students were asked to write a descriptive text of at least two paragraphs. The students’ writing was assessed based on four aspects: content, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The data were analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that the students’ overall writing ability was at sufficient level, with seven students (38.9%). Four students (22.2%) achieved an excellent level, three students (16.7%) were at the good level, and four students (22.2%) were categorized as fair. No students were classified as poor. Among the four aspects, content was the strongest aspect, followed by vocabulary. Grammar was the weakest aspect, followed by mechanics. These findings indicate that although students were able to develop ideas in descriptive texts, they still faced difficulties in grammar and writing mechanics. Therefore, improvement is needed, particularly in grammatical accuracy and writing conventions.
