Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a serious infectious disease that requires early detection to prevent its spread and accelerate treatment. Limited medical personnel and restricted access to healthcare services often lead to delayed diagnosis. This study aims to design a web-based expert system to assist in the early diagnosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) based on patient symptoms. The system development follows the Expert System Development Life Cycle (ESCL) method, which includes the stages of identification, conceptualization, formalization, implementation, and testing. The system employs the forward chaining method as the inference engine to perform data-driven reasoning from symptoms to diagnostic conclusions. The knowledge base is constructed from medical literature and clinical guidelines and validated by experts to ensure accuracy. Testing results show that the system functions properly and provides relevant preliminary diagnostic results. Therefore, this system is expected to serve as an effective screening tool for healthcare professionals and raise public awareness of the importance of early Human Immunodeficiency Virus / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) detection.
