Abstract
The thesis titled buri meaning as a communication tool in the lenam keru baki ritual discusses the role of duching in the kebmau tribal ritual in kebingin, district of the lembata. The aim of research was to understand the symbolic meaning and function of lacing as traditional means of communication in the consummation of the lenam keru baki ritual. It serves not only as a sound instrument but also as a medium of sacred messages relating to traditional values and norms. The study involves qualitative methods that approach case studies, while data-collecting techniques are done through observation, interviews, and documentation. Research applied symbolic interakationalism theory and semiotics theory Roland barthes to analyze the meaning of buri as a symbol of communication and understanding the ritualistic sequence. Data analysis is descriptive by interpreting the symbolic meaning of garnish sounds in the cultural context of local people. Research indicates that garishing has a sacred, symbolic meaning of communication, used as a signifying the beginning of rituals, ancestral callings, and means of transmitting messages to indigenous people. Additionally, garnish becomes a cultural symbol that strengthens social solidarity and preserves traditional values, and contributes to developing traditional cultural communication and communication studies in lembata communities.
