Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of Tua Golo as leaders in maintaining the Mbaru Gendang (traditional house) in Golo Watu Village, Wae Ri'i District, Manggarai Regency, and to explore the local wisdom values contained within it. For the Manggarai people, the Mbaru Gendang serves not only as a traditional residence but also as a center of social, cultural, and religious life, representing the community's identity and togetherness. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and literature review. Data were analyzed descriptively to provide an in-depth description of the Tua Golo's role in the local socio-cultural context. The results indicate that Tua Golo play an important role in three main aspects: (1) establishing and maintaining customary norms (legislative and judicial functions), (2) leading social activities and customary rituals (executive function), and (3) serving as guardians of cultural values inherited from their ancestors. Furthermore, the values of local wisdom reflected in Mbaru Gendang include mutual cooperation (dodo), deliberation (lonto leok), social solidarity, respect for ancestors, and the responsibility of the younger generation in preserving culture.
