Abstract
The Hase Hawaka song is a traditional greeting to welcome guests who come to visit Naitimu village, and also during the ceremony to receive the statue of the Virgin Mary. This study examines one problem formulation namely (1) What is the meaning of the Hase Hawaka song in the context of receiving the statue of the Virgin Mary in the Salore C Environment, Halilulik Parish, Naitimu Village, and how this meaning reflects the interaction between cultural, customary, and Catholic religious values in the local community. This study aims to (1) analyze the meaning of Hase Hawaka song in the procession of receiving the Statue of the Virgin Mary in Salore C Community, Halilulik Parish, Naitimu Village. Hase Hawaka is a traditional song used in customary ceremonies and holds deep symbolic meaning for the local community. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, religious leaders, and members of the Salore C Community, as well as documentation of the reception ceremony. The data were analyzed by considering the social, cultural, and religious context of the community. The result show that Hase Hawaka song convey meanings of respect, prayer, acceptance, and gratitude for the presence of the Virgin Mary. These song also reflect a harmonious integration between local cultural values and Catholic faith practiced by the community and is carried out verbally without musical accompaniment in a circle formation led by the Mako’an or singer Hase Hawaka and is carried out in the afternoon during the procession of receiving the Statue of the Virgin Mary, Therefore Hase Hawaka functions not only as a medium of traditional communication but also as an expression of faith and cultural identity of the Salore C Community.
