Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Describe the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, (2) Describe students' mathematical problem-solving abilities, and (3) Analyze the influence of the PBL model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of grade VII F students at SMP Katolik Adisucipto Penfui. This research is quantitative, employing a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 30 students selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through observation, tests (pretest and posttest), and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis and inferential statistics, including the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and the Paired Samples t-test. The results showed that: (1) The implementation of the PBL model by the teacher and student activities were categorized as Very Good, with average indicator achievement scores of 92.96% and 88.96%, respectively. (2) There was a significant improvement in students' mathematical problem-solving ability, indicated by the increase in the average score from 16.83 (pretest) to 77.00 (posttest). (3) The hypothesis test results obtained a Sig. (2-tailed) value = 0.000 and t-count (61.176) > t-table (2.045), leading to the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of Hₐ. This proves that there is a significant influence of the ProblemBased Learning model on students' mathematical problem-solving ability.
