Abstract

Manual attendance systems in schools often lead to fraud, recording errors, and delayed reporting. This research successfully developed a web-based hybrid attendance system that combines dynamic QR codes and facial recognition as dual-factor authentication to enhance accuracy, security, and efficiency. The system was developed using the Waterfall methodology, with Laravel as the backend framework and Python (using the face_recognition library based on dlib) for face detection. QR codes are generated temporarily per schedule session, while user identity is verified in real-time via the device’s camera. The results demonstrate a fully functional system encompassing management of teacher, student, and class data; scheduling; automatic and manual attendance; and reporting. Testing confirms the system effectively prevents proxy attendance, achieves 91.7% facial recognition accuracy, responds within 2.1 seconds per student, and implements role-based access control, making it suitable for implementation in educational administration.
