Abstract

This research was written by Yuliani Katarina Dora (31122026). It is part of the Development Economics Study Program under the guidance of Dr. M. E Perseveranda, S.E., M.Si as Supervisor I and Adrianus Ketmoen, S.E., M.M as Supervisor II, with the title “Analysis of Leading Sectors, Competitive Advantages, and Specialization of Economic Sectors in Kupang City.” This study aims to analyze the leading sectors, competitive advantages, and specialization of economic sectors in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara, as the provincial capital with service-based economic potential. Using a quantitative approach with Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data at constant prices from 2020 to 2024, this research applies Static and Dynamic Location Quotient (LQ) analysis techniques as well as Shift Share to identify key sectors. The analysis results show that prospective leading sectors include the Manufacturing Industry, Electricity and Gas Supply, Waste Management, Sewage, and Recycling, Construction, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles, Accommodation and Food Service Activities, Information and Communication, Real Estate, Business Services, Education Services, Health Services and Social Activities, and Other Services. Sectors with positive competitive advantages include Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries; Waste Management, Sewage, and Recycling; Accommodation and Food Service Activities; Information and Communication; Public Administration, Defense, and Compulsory Social Security; and Other Services. Meanwhile, specialized sectors include Manufacturing Industry, Electricity and Gas Supply, Waste Management, Sewage, and Recycling, Construction, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles, Transportation and Storage, Accommodation and Food Service Activities, Information and Communication, Financial and Insurance Services, Real Estate, Business Services, Education Services, Health Services and Social Activities, and Other Services. This research recommends development strategies through infrastructure investment, improvement of human resource quality, and inter-party collaboration to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Kupang City.
