Abstract

Music is an essential part of human life. East Manggarai is a regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province rich in cultural diversity, one of which is the concong rhythm. Through this diversity, Manggarai's cultural identity is indirectly reflected. The problems raised in this research are: (1) How is the process of learning the concong stroke for students interested in music in class VII of SMPN 12 Poco Ranaka, East Manggarai Regency?, (2) What are the difficulties in the process of learning the concong stroke for students interested in music in class VII of SMPN 12 Poco Ranaka, East Lambaleda District, East Manggarai Regency?, (3) How to overcome difficulties in the process of learning the concong rhythm for students interested in music in class VII of SMPN 12 Poco Ranaka, East Lambaleda District, East Manggarai Regency?. The purpose of this study is (1) To find out the process of learning Concong strokes in class VII music interest students of SMPN 12 Poco Ranaka, Lambaleda Timur District, East Manggarai Regency, (2) To find out and describe the various difficulties experienced by class VII music interest students of SMPN 12 Poco Ranaka, Lambaleda Timur District, East Manggarai Regency in the process of learning concong strokes, (3) To find out and describe ways that can be done to overcome difficulties in the process of learning concong strokes in class VII music interest students of SMPN 12 Poco Ranaka, Lambaleda Timur District, East Manggarai Regency. The type of research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a field action method and data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that learning Concong stroke rhythms is carried out through the following stages: (1) introduction to Gong and Gendang musical instruments, (2) learning the basic pattern of Concong stroke rhythms, and (3) group practice. Supporting factors in this learning include student enthusiasm, availability of musical instruments, and support from the school and community. Meanwhile, obstacles encountered included limited learning time and students' lack of mastery of the Concong rhythmic technique. Researchers found that overall, learning the Concong rhythmic technique increased students' appreciation for traditional regional music and significantly developed their rhythmic skills.
