Abstract
Side friction is one of the factors that significantly affects road segment performance, especially on urban roads with high roadside activities. Timor Raya Tarus Road is one of the road segments experiencing traffic problems due to side friction activities such as stopped vehicles, pedestrians, vehicle ingress and egress, and slow-moving vehicles. This study aims to analyze the effect of side friction on the performance of the Timor Raya Road segment from the Kupang City border gate to BRI Bank Tarus. The data collection method used was a field survey, which included traffic volume, side friction, vehicle speed, and road geometric data. Data analysis was conducted based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023. The results of the road performance analysis show that the highest degree of saturation is 0.85, corresponding to a Level of Service (LOS) E. To determine the effect of side friction on road performance, a simple linear regression analysis was applied, with side friction (X) as the independent variable and degree of saturation (Y) as the dependent variable. The regression model obtained is Y = 0.0007X + 0.0973. This model has a coefficient of determination R² = 0.978, indicating that 97.80% of the variation in the degree of saturation can be explained by side friction. The correlation coefficient r = 0.988 indicates a very strong and positive linear relationship, meaning that higher side friction leads to a higher degree of saturation. The p-value of 0.00 confirms that the effect of side friction on the degree of saturation is statistically significant. Therefore, it can be concluded that side friction contributes to the deterioration of traffic performance on the Timor Raya Tarus Road segment.
