Abstract

This research is entitled "Community Empowerment (A Case Study of Obstacles to Empowering Banda Ikat Weaving Business Groups in Waijarang Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency)." The research question is: What are the obstacles to empowering Banda Ikat Weaving Business Groups in Waijarang Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency? The purpose of this research is to describe and analyze the obstacles to empowering Banda Ikat Weaving Business Groups in Waijarang Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency. To explain the main problem posed above, a theory of community empowerment is developed, focusing on the obstacles to empowering Banda Ikat Weaving Business Groups in Waijarang Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency, based on the limited human resources (HR) and the lack of ability to manage market opportunities. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method, with interviews and documentation techniques. The results of this study indicate that (1) the lack of labor in the weaving sector in Waijarang Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency is caused by the majority of weavers being elderly, the younger generation tends to choose to work in other sectors or migrate to the city, the lack of managerial skills in the ikat weaving group of Waijarang Village, (2) Lack of knowledge and skills in online marketing is the main obstacle in advancing the Banda ikat weaving business group. The majority of members of this group have elementary and high school education backgrounds, so they have not been able to utilize the potential of social media or e-commerce platforms to expand the market for their ikat weaving products. Based on the research results, some suggestions for improvement include: Concrete steps are needed to attract younger generations to participate in the weaving industry. The Waijarang Village Government and the Lembata Regency Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade Office should provide greater support in terms of access to business management, financial management, and marketing training. The Waijarang Village Government and the Lembata Regency Communication and Information Office should initiate regular workshops or intensive courses focused on the use of social media and e-commerce platforms to market ikat woven products.
