Abstract
The increasing infrastructure development in Indonesia has resulted in an increasing amount of construction waste, including concrete waste, which is still not optimally managed. On the other hand, the continuous use of natural aggregates in road pavement construction has the potential to cause environmental problems. One alternative solution is the use of concrete waste as a substitute for rock dust in asphalt pavement mixtures. This study aims to analyze the effect of using concrete waste as a substitute for rock dust on the Marshall characteristics of Lataston (HRS-Base) mixtures and to determine the optimum concrete waste content. The method used is the Marshall method using planned asphalt content of 6%, 6.5%, 7%, 7.5%, and 8% which produces an optimum asphalt content (KAO) of 7.43%. Then the test specimens were made based on the existing variations, namely 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%. The results showed that the use of concrete waste significantly affected all Marshall parameters. Mechanically, increasing the content of concrete waste caused a decrease in Stability and MQ values and an increase in Flow values due to the high absorption properties of the material. Volumetrically, the use of concrete waste decreased the VMA and VIM values and increased VFB and density due to the characteristics of the material which is more massive and able to fill the voids of the mixture more tightly than natural rock dust. Based on the evaluation of all parameters, the concrete waste content of 10% was declared as the optimum composition because it met all the requirements of the Bina Marga specifications for the HRS-Base mixture.
