Abstract

This research, entitled “The Value of the Kerbau Moa Tradition in the Governance of the Tounwawan Village Community, Moa District, Southwest Maluku Regency,” aims to describe and analyze the values contained in the Kerbau Moa tradition and its role in the governance of social life within the Tounwawan Village community. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving traditional leaders, community members, and village officials who understand and directly participate in the Kerbau Moa tradition. The results of the study indicate that the Kerbau Moa tradition embodies local wisdom values that play a vital role in regulating social relations, strengthening community solidarity, and serving as a guideline for customary decision-making and collective activities. This tradition also functions as a means of preserving ancestral norms and ethics, which continue to serve as the foundation for social and customary governance in Tounwawan Village. Values such as mutual cooperation, togetherness, responsibility, and respect for ancestors serve as the core principles that maintain social harmony and strengthen the cultural identity of the local community.
